Meghan Markle pitches movie idea to Netflix about Black Lives Matter co-founder

EXCLUSIVE: As part of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's big money deal with the streaming giants, Meghan wants to tell the life story of "hugely inspiring" Patrisse Cullors

Meghan Markle yesterday celebrated the anniversary of her charity clothing line and revealed her best fashion accessory: Confidence.

And the Duchess of Sussex will have drawn on her own self-belief when she pitched a new movie idea to Netflix.

She created her fashion collection for Smart Works – which helps women back into the world of work with new outfits and interview coaching.

The range was launched last September in partnership with John Lewis, Marks & Spencer, Jigsaw and Misha Nonoo.

For every item sold over two weeks, another was given to help a woman get back to work.

In a video chat yesterday, Meghan heard from three women helped by the charity.

Speaking from her mansion in Montecito, California, she said: “People can say so much of Smart Works is about the clothes... but it’s really not.

“All of that stuff is the exterior but it’s what it does for you on the inside that ends up being the best accessory. It’s the confidence – it’s what is built within.”

Meghan’s proposed movie is about Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Cullors, who is said to have “hugely inspired’ the duchess.

If it gets the green light it will be part of a £120million deal she and Prince Harry signed with the streaming giant.

A source said: “Meghan has been blown away by the incredible work Patrisse has done. She thinks her story needs to be told – and she would love to be the one to make it.”

Los Angeles-born Patrisse, 36, started Black Lives Matter in 2013 with Alicia Garza and Opal Tometi.

The campaigner has said BLM will not meet US President Donald Trump, who she described as the “epitome of evil”.

Meghan’s movie news comes as Prince Harry told pals he wants to follow in the footsteps of Hollywood director Ron Howard.
