Matthew Morrison has left fans disturbed by his transformation into The Grinch.
The Glee star, 42, portrayed the classic green curmudgeon for NBC's production of Dr. Seuss' The Grinch Musical!
Also starring in the musical adaptation of the classic tale of How The Grinch Stole Christmas were BooBoo Stewart as a young version of The Grinch's dog Max and American Horror Story alum Denis O'Hare as an older version of the character.
Naturally, playing such an iconic character, with previous iterations including a live-action film version from Jim Carrey and an animated take voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch, there was bound to be a strong reaction whatever Matthew Morrison did with the role.
However, many on social media reacted with sheer horror at the Glee star's take on the character.
One Twitter user penned: "Me: It’s just...I can’t get it out of my head.
"Therapist: You know Matthew Morrison as The Grinch can’t actually harm you, right?
"Me: HE BROKE THE FOURTH WALL AND TALKED RIGHT AT ME, OF COURSE HE CAN! #GrinchMusicalShow".
A different social media user tweeted: "Watching the Grinch Musical and I... I wish y’all would just accept that Jim Carrey did it best and leave the Grinch story alone".
Meanwhile, one viewer commented: "Matthew Morrison in the Grinch Musical looks like a cast member from Cats died, molded, and came back to life".
Elsewhere, another person penned: "saw a commercial for the grinch musical today and matthew morrison as the grinch was SO SCARY wtf who thought that was okay?"
Another added: "nbc grinch live action musical. matthew morrison. living nightmare fuel".
Finally, one Twitter user amusingly concluded: "just watched the grinch the musical with matthew morrison and i’m not only scarred, but disappointed that he did not break dance ONCE. you’ll be hearing from my lawyer."
Well, this just makes us want to see even more of it!
The Grinch Musical will air in the UK on Sky One and Now TV on December 20, 2020.
