Matt Lucas has revealed he lost all of his hair when he was just six years old after a terrifying car accident.
The Great British Bake Off host, 46, said going through such a huge change in appearance from a young age shaped him into the man he is today.
During an appearance on the Jonathan Ross Show, the star lifted the lid on his insecurities which stemmed from his childhood.
Matt explained that when he was six, he woke up one morning to find a few strands of hair on his pillow.
The legendary comedian recalled not being too worried at the time, but when he woke up the next morning, his mother became alarmed.
"I woke up one morning to find several hairs on my pillow," he told.
"The next day the same thing happened, only this time there were a lot more.
"By the end of that summer, all my hair had fallen out."
Matt's family were left completely baffled by his sudden hair loss, so they went to doctor in a bid to find the answer to his health problem.
After seeing "countless" doctors, a health expert concluded the hair loss was the result of shock after he was knocked down by a car in Portugal two years earlier.
Matt was then diagnosed with alopecia.
"So, I was the first six year old in my class to learn the word alopecia," he recalled.
Despite the setback in his early life, the former Little Britain star feels that losing his hair turned him into the character he is today.
"I started out actually always in character because I think growing up, I lost my hair when I was six.
"I was ashamed of being gay, struggled with weight. Other challenging things happened in the family. I wanted to be a stand-up comedian.
"I felt I could be more honest in character than I could be as myself."
