Matt Goss reveals why he's returned home to the UK

Matt Goss has said he doesn't want "a reclusive life in my place" as he prepares to take on Strictly Come Dancing and return to the public eye in the UK.

The 80s star, 53, is looking forward to "embracing life" and said he gets treated "like part of the family" in this country. Matt, who shot to fame alongside his brother Luke in Bros, was announced as the eighth contestant on the BBC show this week.

He will compete against the likes of Kym Marsh, Ellie Simmonds and Kaye Adams. Speaking on BBC Breakfast on Tuesday, Matt said: "It is a nice feeling to have - that familiarity with the British public. It’s very conversational.

"There’s selfies and we’ll chat about life and that’s the life I want. I don’t want a reclusive life in my place, I want to get out and embrace life much more than I have done and obviously with my announcement yesterday, it’s as public as you can get really."

The Bros heartthrob recently moved back to the UK after living in Las Vegas. He added: "I think my lifestyle’s different here, but I also get treated like part of the family in this country. I get treated very, very well."

Matt underwent his physical assessment for Strictly yesterday and "passed with flying colours", but said there's still strength training he will need to complete. He said: "I’m taking it seriously you know just in regards to my health and just making sure I’m strong, but I haven’t had good butterflies in a long time.

"I’m used to singing in front of anyone you can imagine - Mohammad Ali to the President of the United States - I’ve done so much and to get butterflies about something is a good feeling." The singer-songwriter sold most of his belongings ahead of his transatlantic move, although he did keep his art and crystals.

Matt said: "There’s a lot of stuff to arrange in my mind but it’s something that I needed to do for myself. I’ve gone to that place, the beautiful unknown, and I want to truly I believe in my own philosophy that the unknown is something to look forward to."

Matt said he is looking forward to the simple things now he has returned home. "I was playing frisbee in the park and it was sunny, just going for a pint of Guinness, getting a bacon sandwich and not having to explain.

"It’s the simplest things when you come back home that make you feel happy."
