Marty Wilde has become first celebrity to receive the Covid-19 vaccine in the UK and called having it "common sense".
The rock legend, 81, received the first jab of the Pfizer vaccine on Thursday.
The Teenager in Love singer and father of singer Kim Wilde is due to receive the follow-up dose in 21 days.
On receiving the vaccine, Wilde said to the Press Association: "Having just had my Covid injection I can honestly say it was an easy experience, if that’s the right word. It was painless and the staff were great."
Marty is a big advocate of receiving the vaccine and encouraged others to have it.
He explained his desire to be one of the first to have it and noted: "Because I think it is common sense. You look at the amount of people who have died over this last six to eight months and then you think how you can protect yourself.
"It’s common sense. The whole thing is just the right thing to do. You need an injection."
He also spoke highly of the good work that all NHS staff are doing on the frontlines of the fight against coronavirus.
"I try and thank them whenever I see them now because they saved my life and that was very important," noted Marty. "I would do everything I can for this hospital and also for the NHS staff. They are truly wonderful. We have got the best in the world."
Yesterday it was revealed by Marty in an interview with the Press Association that he was keen to get the vaccine before Cliff Richard, 80.
He said: "This is one of the few times I am glad I am older than Cliff Richard because I am going to get my injection before that bugger does."
London-born Wilde was previously admitted to Lister Hospital in the first national lockdown after suffering a collapse at his home in Hertfordshire.
