Some former Love Islander stars are not happy after finding out they wont be taking part in the upcoming reunion special.

It is understood that ITV have been working on a three-part series - which is set to be named Love Island : Where Are They Now? - which will look at the lives of ex-Islanders since leaving the show.

However, not all the alumni are pleased as a few stars have been snubbed - which has led to things getting "nasty" between some of the reality personalities, according to reports.

An insider close to the project has told that show bosses were hoping for the top four stars from each series to be involved in the special - but that some others were also invited to take part.

It is understood that Megan Barton Hanson, Tommy Fury, Molly-Mae Hague, Wes Nelson and Montana Brown are on the line-up but Arabella Chi and Hayley Hughes are not.

The source told The Sun : "Those involved are very excited, but it has put a few noses out of joint among stars who haven't been asked, especially those who think they are bigger names than those who have. Unfortunately things have got a bit nasty between some.

"At first it was just going to be the finalists from each series, but once exceptions started being made it really sparked anger and resentment."

They added that some people had to "miss out" as it was not possible to fit everyone into three episodes.

The TV source added: "A few of them have kicked off a bit about it, but that's just life. They can squabble among themselves all they want."

ITV confirmed to the publication that they have invited a number of former contestants but could not accommodate all of them.

A spokesman said: "There have been many fantastic Islanders over the years. This three-part series will feature some of them and will allow viewers to catch up with their lives since their time in the villa."

In May, news broke that Love Island would not be on-air during the summer of 2020.

TV execs have said that the show can't go ahead as the safety of contestants cannot be guaranteed amid the global COVID-19 pandemic.

Kevin Lygo, Director of Television at ITV, said: "We have tried every which way to make Love Island this summer but logistically it's just not possible to produce it in a way that safeguards the wellbeing of everyone involved and that for us is the priority.

"In normal circumstances we would be preparing very soon to travel out to the location in Mallorca to get the villa ready but clearly that’s now out of the question.

"We are very sorry for fans of the show but making it safely is our prime concern and Love Island will be back stronger than ever in 2021. In the meantime Love Island fans can still enjoy all six series of Love Island on BritBox."
