Liz Hurley and tragic Steve Bing became close friends again before he fell to his death after healing their near 20-year rift.
Businessman Steve, who was the father of the star's son Damian, took his own life in June aged 55.
He and model Liz refused to talk for years after falling out.
Her relationship with millionaire film producer turned "toxic" when she fell pregnant with Damian in 2001 and he denied paternity.
But despite a period of estrangement, it's been revealed that Steve had reached out to reconnect in the last year and they rekindled their friendship.
Liz has revealed how they worked through their issues and were on good terms when he made the decision to end his life.
"We hadn’t been friends for a very long time, but about a year and a half ago he came back into our lives," Liz told You magazine.
"It’s very sad, just terrible. Horrific that it happened but there is some comfort to know we had made up and there was no bad feeling."
Tragic Steve died after leaping from the 27th floor of his Los Angeles apartment amid a battle with depression.
Liz opened up about her later partner in an interview with Extra earlier this month.
"He was a good man. He gave to so many good causes," she fondly remembered.
"He was a philanthropist at heart and when we were together, which was a very long time ago, more than 18 years ago, I loved him very much.
"So I really hope people will retain fond memories of him."
The model opened up on social media days his death - revealing they spoke just weeks before he passed away.
She wrote: “I am saddened beyond belief that my ex Steve is no longer with us. It is a terrible end.
“Our time together was very happy and I’m posting these pictures because although we went through some tough times, it’s the good, wonderful memories of a sweet, kind man that matter.
After Steve's death, Damian, 18, expressed his heartache in a social media post.
He wrote: "Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone that has reached out following the devastating news.
"I’m trying to reply to as many of you as I can, but please know I will always remember your kindness.
"This is a very strange and confusing time and I’m immensely grateful to be surrounded by my phenomenal family and friends."
