It has been 43 years since Elvis Presley died and since he was was laid to rest on August 18, there has been a secret gift from his daughter lying with him.

Lisa Marie was only nine years old when her father, the King of Pop, died and as thousands descended on their Graceland home, she was determined that he had something special from her with him forever more.

Tens of thousands of fans would be allowed to pay their last respects to the music icon, filing through the house to the open casket, which lay under the arch between the living and music rooms.

There was some time given to the grieving family to be with Elvis before the funeral and it was here that Lisa Marie asked if she could add her momento.

Funeral Director Robert Kendall has recalled that Lisa Marie walked up to the coffin but did not look at her father inside.

Robert said that she asked him: "Mister Kendall, can I give this to my daddy?"

In her hand was a thin metal bangle but Robert and Lisa Marie's mother Priscilla both spotted a problem with it that made them dissuade her from putting it in the coffin.

Lisa Marie was determined and amid the upset, Robert relented and said he would help her pass it on to Elvis.

Taking her to the coffin, he asked Lisa Marie where she would like the bracelet to go.

Pointing to her own wrist, Robert reportedly lifted up Elvis' arm and slipped the bangle onto his wrist, telling young Lisa Marie that it would stay with her father forever.

After Lisa Marie left the room, her mum Priscilla reportedly instructed the funeral director to conceal the piece of jewellery before more fans came to file past the coffin with fears the bangle would be taken, so it was placed beneath his shirt.

On the day of the funeral, August 18, it is thought that 80,000 people lined the route to Forest Hill Cemetery.

The private funeral for family and friends saw Elvis laid to rest next to his mother in the family mausoleum there.

He was moved to Graceland permanently on October 3, after a foiled attempt by fans to dig up the body where it had originally been placed.
