Lisa Maffia has revealed she has been diagnosed with cervical cancer.

The singer, 41, broke the news to fans on Instagram as she headed to a Colposcopy appointment at hospital.

"I never miss a smear and I unfortunately have cervical cancer," she told her followers. "So now I'm even more cautious.

"This is just a reminder to anyone that maybe has forgotten to get tested!

"It's not a game," she urged.

Following the hospital appointment, an emotional Lisa returned to Instagram where she said she had been 'petrified' but the process was 'quick and easy.'

Lisa explained the experience was made harder by the fact her mum is battling terminal cervical cancer.

Speaking from her car, Lisa told her followers, "Just like that I am already out. As you can see I was really upset..."

She tearfully continued: "My mum has cervical cancer, terminal cancer, so going into this every time I've had to go into this - this is the third time they've had to check my cells - makes me absolutely petrified."

The former So Solid Crew member said she wanted to share her news with fans to encourage others to keep updated with their smear tests and 'to be mindful of your health in general'.

"It can happen to anyone," said the brave star.

She ended the self-record message by assuring fans she was doing OK.

Lisa shot to fame as the main female member of So Solid Crew in the early 2000s, alongside the likes of MC Harvey and Romeo.

The band scored five top 20 hits, including the platinum selling single 21 Seconds in 2001.

A year later they went on to win the best British Video award at the 2002 BRIT Awards as well as two Mobos.

Lisa, who is mum to daughter Chelsea, then achieved success as a solo singer, with her track All Over also reaching platinum status in 2003.

In 2019 Lisa took part in ITV All New Full Monty where she performed a strip-tease with a number of celebs to help raise cancer awareness.

Lisa said she was inspired to take part after seeing her mother's battle with cancer.

She recalled how her mum left her smear test for five years, not realising that the disease was spreading throughout her body.

“My mum left her smear test for five years and in five years it had spread to her lymph node glands, collar bone, all of her cervix", she told iNews.

"Until she was diagnosed, she didn’t feel anything. The minute she knew, it tore her apart.”

Speaking on Loose Women, Lisa said that her mum was first daignosed with cervical cancer in 2011 and was initially told she had 'six months to live.'

She beat it but then eight years later the cancer returned.
