Lily James has admitted to making mistakes “all the time” after she was seen kissing married co-star Dominic West.
The 31-year-old actress, who starred in Downton Abbey, spoke about unfortunate errors she has made in a video for Harper's Bazaar, which was released just 48 hours after she was embroiled in a kiss scandal with West.
In the video, she also said that she admired the fact that her character in the new movie adaptation of Daphne du Maurier’s Rebecca, cheated on her husband.
Lily was pictured to be seemingly kissing Dominic, 50, who is her co-star in BBC drama The Pursuit of Love, while they were filming in Rome.
In the video, Lily spoke about her habit for doing the wrong thing: "I think I make mistakes all the time and I feel that’s what life’s about and I would never want to run away from a situation or be too scared to act...
“I’m still figuring it out but I do think I can grow and develop a thicker skin. All that matters is those who love you.”
In the unearthed interview in which Lily talks about her playing the lead role in Rebecca, she said: "The character Rebecca, she went against all norms as a woman.
"[She] disobeyed her husband and had affairs, was basically just brilliant and that was only in the 1930s.
“People are afraid of women when they’re unleashed and women are warriors and that’s intimidating."
Lily added: “I feel I’ve rebelled in that way. I was always a rebellious teenager and I think it’s important to rebel in that way.
“I think criticism can be good if it’s constructive but I feel like if it’s attacking you or a vendetta that’s really difficult but I’m still learning."
Since the kiss pics, father-of-four Dominic has posed for photos with his wife Catherine Fitzgerald before heading to their castle in Ireland to escape the media attention.
The pair kissed for the cameras as they looked to put on a loved-up display in the wake of 'the kiss' and insisted their "marriage is strong".
The awkward moment was topped off by Catherine holding a piece of paper on which a handwritten note read: "Our marriage is strong, and we are very much together.”
While Dominic fled the country with his wife, Lily has found herself to be the target of online trolls, who have accused her of being 'the other woman' despite an insistence from her that the kiss was innocent and photos had taken it out of context.
A source close to the actress has said: “Lily is absolutely devastated by how this whole situation has played out.
"No one but she and Dominic, and one of their mutual agents who was with them for much of the day, really knows what the score is.
"Yet, she is being portrayed as this home-wrecking man-eater."
The source added that "photos can be deceptive" and that Lily is getting "terribly trolled on social media and she is very, very hurt by all the abuse.”
