Lewis Capaldi fears his own mother is trolling him after she began incessantly reading insults to him.
The 23-year-old chart topping star has enjoyed phenomenal success since he burst on to the music scene in 2017 – going on to scoop music awards and hit No 1 with his debut album.
But, as many are all too aware, fame comes at a price and it seems even the notoriously jovial Scottish singer is occasionally targeted with vile abuse online.
While blocking Twitter accounts could be one way to limit how he is subjected to the insults being hurled at him, it seems the offensive phrases trolls send his way are being broadcast to him regardless.
By his own mother.
Speaking to the Mail on Sunday, Lewis explained his mum has taken to sending all the terrible things people write about him online straight to him.
He said: “She reads negative comments on Twitter and sends them to me. People saying I look like Meat Loaf.”
And it seems getting his mum to stop could be easier said than done.
Lewis said: “I’m like, ‘Mum, stop doing it – you built up my self-esteem over years, and now you’re systematically destroying it!’”
Lewis is, however, able to remind himself – and all those around him – of his success.
On Friday, explained he has taken to displaying his various awards in his bathroom, so guests at his house have not choice but to appreciate his achievements when they pop to the toilet.
He declared during an interview in the USA: “I like the thought people go to the toilet and while they’re on the toilet, they go, ‘Wow, this guy is pretty successful’.
“I like to remind people, literally when their pants are down, ‘Look at my achievements’.
