Leona Lewis has revealed that she would “very much like to adopt” children as she opens up on starting a family with her husband Dennis Jauch.

The pair got married in Italy last year after nine years together.

The singer, 35, who famously won the third series of The X Factor back in 2006, married Dennis in a stunning ceremony in front of 180 of their closest friends and family.

Heartbreakingly, choreographer Dennis' father passed away just three weeks before the couple's wedding.

After celebrating their first anniversary, Leona has now told of the couple’s plans to start a family.

Leona revealed in a new interview that she and Dennis are keen to have a family, but have also spoken about adopting a child when asked whether the couple would like children in the future.

The Bleeding Love songstress explained that her mum grew up in a children’s home and her experience has inspired her to consider adopting in the future.

“I do want children, but Dennis and I have also talked about adopting,’ she told The Telegraph’s Stella magazine.

“My mum grew up in a children’s home, no one adopted her as a child, and I would very much like to adopt.”

Leona added: “I’m still figuring things out. If it was up to my husband, we would have had kids yesterday.”

Their family planning revelation comes after Leona gushed that she was “sent an incredible sign” she should marry her husband from his late father.

The couple had hoped to tie the knot in the stunning vineyards surrounding the Il Palagio estate but had to move celebrations indoors when the "craziest" storm hit.

The electrical storm stayed in for the night but both Leona and Dennis took it as a sign they were meant to be from his late father.

She said: "There was so much energy in the room and everyone was rooting for us.

"We felt Lutz there with us and we knew he wanted us to go ahead and do this."

Dennis added: "There couldn't have been more of a sign, Dad made sure we all knew he was there."

The couple live on a ranch in California, where they keep their rescue goats, Pierre and Perla.
