Laurence Fox has been calling people paedophiles on Twitter.

The actor, who describes himself as a "Fierce Liberal", made the comments on the micro-blogging site on Sunday night without any proof of the allegations.

During the bizarre rant - that followed on from the star announcing on the social media platform that he was boycotting Sainsbury's supermarket over their support of Black History Month - the 42-year-old took aim at former Coronation Street actress Nicola Thorpe and Stonewall Trustee Simon Blake.

He also lashed out at another user.

After Laurence shared his message about no longer shopping at the supermarket, Simon Blake, CEO of Mental Health First Aid England and chair of Stonewall UK - who campaign for the equality of lesbian, gay, bi and trans people across Britain and abroad - retweeted his tweet and penned: "What a mess. What a racist t**t."

In response, Laurence tweeted alongside Simon's message: "Pretty rich coming from a paedophile."

Simon then replied: "Hi @LozzaFox - please would you remove this tweet as you know it to be untrue. Thanks."

And Laurence used the same slur towards Nicola Thorpe - famed for playing Nicola Rubinstein in ITV soap opera Corrie - as they debated online about his viewpoints.

Nicole wrote in one Tweet: "Any company giving future employment to Laurence Fox, or providing him with a platform, does so with the complete knowledge that he is unequivocally, publicly and undeniably a racist. And they should probably re-read their own statements of 'solidarity' with the black community."

Laurence re-posted the message and typed: "Hey @nicolathorp_ Any company giving future employment to Nicola Thorpe or providing her with a platform does so with the complete knowledge that she is unequivocally, publicly and undeniably a paedophile."

After Laurence's statement, many social media users revealed that they were reporting him and others urged him to delete his Twitter account.

One micro-blogger typed: "Laurence Fox just going around calling people paedophiles. Totally normal. Really hope @TwitterSupport actually does something and takes away his account. The man is absolutely deranged."

Another added: "@LozzaFox A short countdown has started on your account being suspended I think it’s best you delete your account now."

Others agreed as they penned: "@LozzaFox Delete your account" and "Reported this tweet and this account. Disgraceful comments to male about someone with no evidence."

Earlier today, Fox told his 238,000 Twitter followers that he'll never shop in Sainsbury's again.

It came after a statement from the company's official account spoke of how they would be marking Black History Month, an annual observance of black history and culture celebrated around the world.

The statement read: "We are proud to celebrate Black History Month together with our Black colleagues, customers and communities and we will not tolerate racism.

"We proudly represent and serve our diverse society and anyone who does not want to shop with an inclusive retailer is welcome to shop elsewhere."

Laurence shared the statement, adding: "Dear @sainsburys I won’t be shopping in your supermarket ever again whilst you promote racial segregation and discrimination. I sincerely hope others join me. RT #BoycottSainsburys"

He added: "Further reading here," alongside a link to the Sainsbury's website explaining why they support Black History Month.

It says: "At Sainsbury's we want to celebrate black heritage with our colleagues and customers. We recognise and embrace the contributions black people have made in the UK, both past and present, and acknowledge the black history is UK history."
