Lana Del Rey has surprised her fans by singing a song of hope on the night of the US election.

The Video Games singer, 35, took to her Twitter account to share a video of herself singing You'll Never Walk Alone from the musical Carousel as the results rolled in on Tuesday night, US time.

The song will be better known to UK fans as the anthem of Liverpool F.C. thanks to the 1963 cover by scouse band Gerry and the Pacemakers that is sung at matches.

In the black and white video, Lana belted out the opening lines of the song, singing: "When you walk through a storm, hold your head up high and don't be afraid of the dark.

"At the end of a storm there's a golden sky, and the sweet silver song of a lark."

The song ends: "Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart.

"And you'll never walk alone. You'll never walk alone."

Lana's fans loved her cover version of the song, with many pointing out the connection to Liverpool.

One tweeted: "Give her time to sing this song for thousands of fans at Anfield before the match starts. Please @LFC."

"Lana said up the reds," another posted.

A third said: "Get her in for the inevitable champions league final in May."

"Who knew Lana is a scouser x," another joked.
