Kym Marsh admits she fancied Corrie's Steve McDonald before they became on-screen lovers
Former Coronation Street star Kym Marsh has revealed her on-screen husband Steve McDonald was her teenage crush before they were paired together on the ITV soap
Kym Marsh has admitted she had a massive teenage crush on her Corrie co-star Steve McDonald before they became on-screen lovers.
The former Hear'Say singer, 44, dropped the secret bombshell on Simon Gregson - who plays Steve - when she joined the soap in 2006.
It was like a dream come true for the actress as she ended up becoming his wife on-screen.
She told The Sun : "It was bizarre. I told Simon when I started that when I was younger I had a poster of him on my bedroom wall."
Kym explained her crush on Simon's character as "very strange" and said she first laid her eyes on him at a gig in Manchester when she was "about 14 or 15".
The soap star, who played Michelle Connor, continued: "I couldn't believe the McDonald twins from Corrie were there. I remember seeing him and thinking, ‘Oh my god, he is so gorgeous, he’s so handsome’."
She admitted he thought it was "hilarious" when she made the revelation and ended up being his girlfriend on the long-running ITV soap.
Kym explained her former co-star as one of the funniest people she has met and his "Steve McDonald eye roll" always has her in stitches of laughter.
Coronation Street will celebrate its 60-year anniversary next month.
Mum-of-four Kym originally joined the soap for just three episodes.
She played a singer in a band alongside Steve's mum Liz McDonald's partner Vernon.
However things changed as Kym ended up staying for 13 years and made a reputation for herself as the Rover's favourite landlady.
The telly star will always credit Corrie for breaking her into the acting industry.
And she admitted her close pal Beverley Callard, who plays Liz McDonald, gave her some incredible tips along the way.
Since quitting the soap, Kym has ventured into other projects, including becoming a TV host on BBC One show Morning Live alongside Gethin Jones.
She is also preparing to be in BBC drama The Syndicate next year.
