Kim Kardashian has made quite the successful career out of her social media influence but it looks like she has decided to actually freeze both her Facebook and Instagram accounts in order to make a difference! The Keeping Up with the Kardashians celeb announced this decision earlier today, telling her followers that she has joined the Stop Hate for Profit movement.
This campaign that she felt like showing her full support to, is seeking to ‘hold social media companies accountable for hate on their platforms,’ their official website reading: ‘Stop valuing profits over hate, bigotry, racism, antisemitism, and disinformation. We continue to demand change and that Facebook stop hate for profit.’
Kim shared the message, writing: ‘I love that I can connect directly with you through Instagram and Facebook, but I cannot just sit by and stay silent while these platforms continue to allow spreading of hate, of propaganda and misinformation – created by certain groups to sow division and to split America apart – only to take some steps after people are killed. Misinformation shared on social media has a very serious impact on our elections and also undermines our democracy.’
She went on to ask her followers to: ‘Please join me tomorrow when I will be ‘freezing’ my Instagram and FB account to tell Facebook to #StopHateForProfit.’
Kim joined a significant list of other celebrities that decided to freeze their accounts as well in support of this campaign.
Some of the big names that also posted about it and are going to freeze their platforms tomorrow are Mark Ruffalo, Sacha Baron Cohen, Jennifer Lawrence, Kerry Washington and Katy Perry!
