Katie Piper has opened about her supernatural experience in hospital after suffering a life-changing acid attack.

Bewildered Katie had stirred from a coma – bandaged, blinded in one eye and facing the awful realisation that she had been burnt beyond recognition.

Twelve long and challenging years later – and after more than 250 operations – Katie said it was then when the nurse helping her started talking to her about God.

Then 24-year-old Katie, who has always considered herself to be atheist, said what came next was nothing short of a supernatural experience.

She told Daily Mail : "Had anyone known, she would probably have been sacked for breaking ethics by discussing religion. But she was just doing it out of Christian kindness to comfort me.

"At that point, I really felt my life was over. But I remember her telling me: 'Things happen for a reason. This is not the end. God has great things in store for you'.

"That night I prayed for the first time. Then the weirdest thing happened. The room seemed incredibly bright, and I felt I was being enveloped in a warm hug."

She added: "A voice in my head said: 'Everything's going to be OK'. I didn't see God or angels, but I felt an incredible sense of being loved."

Katie's life changed 12 years ago when she met a man named Danny Lynch after moving out of the family home in Andover, Hampshire.

Living in London, Katie was contacted by Lynch who told her he owned a property in the city and studied computing, as he struck up a digital friendship with her.

The pair had over 30 mutual friends on social media, so credibility wasn't an issue for Katie. And after a few back and forth exchanges, the pair turned their friendship into a romantic relationship.

However soon after the pair took their friendship to a romantic level, Katie began to doubt his stories - and things turned quickly.

Lynch raped her, and arranged for associate Stefan Sylvestre to throw sulphuric acid in her face.

The horrific attack caused major damage to her face and blindness in one eye.

The heartless ordeal left Katie horrifically injured, as she lost her eyelids, part of her nose and one ear.

It was after that horrific ordeal when Katie began to believe in a higher power.

A whole 12 years later, Katie insists she's moved on and has forgiven her attackers.

Katie - who shares daughters Belle, six, and two-year-old Penelope with husband of five years James Sutton - says: "I am a Christian. I have forgiven."

Most recently, Katie said it was "God's calling" that she landed her latest job as a presenter on the BBC’s revered show Songs Of Praise.
