Kate Winslet trained herself to hold breath for 7 minutes for gruelling Avatar 2 filming
Kate Winslet, who is set to play a 'water person' in Avatar 2, put her body through extreme lengths in order to be able to film under water for long periods of time
Kate Winslet has detailed the extreme lengths she went to for Avatar 2.
The dedicated actress, 45, put her body through radical pressure and stress in order to deliver a perfect performance.
Former Titanic star Kate, learned to free-dive for the second instalment of the hit movie and admits she did “crazy, crazy stuff” for an underwater shoot.
Proving that she’s willing to test her limits for the exciting role, Kate said that she trained herself to hold her breath underwater for over seven minutes.
She told the Hollywood Reporter : “I had to learn how to free-dive to play that role in Avatar, and that was just incredible.
“My longest breath hold was seven minutes and 14 seconds, like crazy, crazy stuff.”
The Dressmaker star will feature in the film as a ‘water person’ and fans can see her in action next December.
After the film’s producer, Jon Landau, posted a picture Kate on set while filming an underwater scene, fans of the box-office smash flick erupted into a frenzy.
Kate is pictured wearing heavyweights around her waist.
She also dons an uncomfortable looking nose clip which helped her to hold her breath underwater and a giant set of wings across the length of her arms.
The talented actress can be seen walking along the bottom of a water tank which was purposely built for the animated flick.
Kate isn't the first Avatar 2 cast member to discuss underwater filming prep.
Sigourney Weaver, who will play a brand-new character on Avatar 2, told The New York Times earlier this month that she trained with “an expert who had coached elite military divers so that she could hold her breath, after a big gulp of supplemental oxygen, for more than six minutes.”
The long-awaited sequel is set for release in December 2021.
