Kate Garraway admitted she's been feeling 'exhausted and very fretful' as she revealed her husband Derek Draper had been 'in and out of hospital'.

The Good Morning Britain presenter, 55, has been sharing updates on her husband's health journey after former political lobbyist Derek was first hospitalised with Covid in March 2020. Derek has gone on to become the UK's longest-suffering patient of the virus.

Over the last year, Derek has been released from hospital but continues to receive round the clock care at the family's home, where Kate lives with their two children.

Despite small progress, Kate has told fans Derek's battle is far from over and she's not sure if he will ever be the same.

In her latest Instagram post, Kate told followers that she's been left shattered by Derek's continuous trips to hospital lately.

The presenter admitted she was struggling but was trying to put her faith in the teams caring for him while finding small solace in simple pleasures.

"So Derek has been in and out of hospital a lot recently," the mum-of-two began her post.

"Hopefully the wonderful health teams will help him improve but I woke up early feeling exhausted & very fretful."

Kate went onto tell her followers how she had found solace during testing times.

"As you know my garden is my #happyplace so came out for some #calm and to get stuck in to some weeding & planting.

"It's been ages since have been able to & I really missed it but nature hasn’t me .

"The flowers are blooming, fruits growing , leaves dancing in the breeze. Am sure there’s a message in there somewhere for how life finds a way , and I certainly feel better for being in amongst it. Now to get my hands dirty & get stuck in! #happysundayeveryone and hope you find some joy !"

In April Kate was surprised on GMB by members of a nurse who had been looking after her husband when he first fell ill with Covid.

Kate became very emotional as she spoke to nurse Beth Dixon who worked on Derek's ward and also cared for the author Michael Rosen.

Kate said: “I have to ask you on a personal note, because you cared for Michael and Derek, we’ve now found out was two beds away. Did you care for him?”

“I would have done, yeah,” said Beth, who pre-Covid had worked at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

“God that is amazing,” said an emotional Kate. “Thank you so much by the way.”

“We tried, we did everything that we could. We put our all into it,” said Beth.

Kate replied: “Thank you so much. That is amazing. Gosh, I feel quite… I don’t know whether I can leap up and hug you but I’m going to. Thank you so much - that’s amazing.

“I’m quite overwhelmed as I’ve not seen the faces of anyone from that time so it’s lovely.”
