Kate Garraway and Derek Draper miss out on huge marriage milestone as he remains in hospital
Kate Garraway's husband Derek Draper is still in intensive care after catching coronavirus back in March, which wreaked havoc on his body
Kate Garraway and Derek Draper have missed out on a huge marriage milestone while he remains in hospital after battling coronavirus earlier this year.
The Good Morning Britain star and her husband, both 53. were planning to renew their wedding vows and have a big party today, which is their 15th wedding anniversary.
She said Derek had asked her to marry her again when she left the I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Here! jungle, as he told her he'd fallen in love with her all over again watching her on TV.
Speaking to You magazine, Kate said their two children Darcey, 14, and 11-year-old Billy had been excited for their second wedding day.
She explained: "Darcey was very excited: she was planning a second wedding – God knows what she'd have had me wearing.
"But now that won't be happening and our anniversary will be very strange."
Derek was rushed to hospital back in March after he caught coronavirus.
He was moved to intensive care and placed in a coma.
The former political lobbyist is now clear of coronavirus and is slowly waking from his coma, though the bug has wrecked havoc on his body.
Derek now has clots in his lungs and holes in his heart and it's left him diabetic.
Kate says his latest problem is in his intestines as he isn't digesting food properly.
Doctors don't know if he will recover or why coronavirus affected him so badly.
