Kate Beckinsale has shared that she suffered a miscarriage years ago.

The Hollywood star, 47, bravely opened up on losing a baby at 20 weeks on her Instagram page on Friday.

English actress Kate told that she had "managed to keep her pregnancy quiet" and shared that she felt "grief, shame and shock" following the tragic loss.

The Underworld star opened up on the pain as she threw her support behind Chrissy Teigen and John Legend after the couple announced that they are mourning the loss of their son Jack.

On Wednesday, model Chrissy, 34, shared the sad news that she and John lost their baby by posting a number of candid photos that illustrated the pain and suffering that the couple are going through.

Sharing that Kate understands why Chrissy decided to post the gallery of photos, she penned: "I’ve noticed people criticizing @chrissyteigen for sharing deeply intimate photos of the loss of her baby.

"As if there’s some protocol during soul-scouring calamity that, if not observed, emboldens people who do not know her or her family to say how she should be handling the unimaginable."

She then explained that she suffered from a miscarriage, as she added: "Years ago, I lost a baby at 20 weeks. I had managed to keep my pregnancy quiet and I absolutely collapsed inside and no one would have known.

"There is grief, shame and shock so often that come with an experience like this, plus the heartbreak of your body continuing, after the loss, to act as if it had a child to nurture.

"Your milk comes in, with no one to feed. It can be the loneliest, most soul destroying period of time, particularly if you are not in the position of having an emotionally connected, supportive partner like Chrissy has."

Kate went on to add that she believes it is noble that Chrissy shared the snaps as so many people don't speak about the subject of losing a baby.

She continued: "I think it’s an honour to be allowed into another persons grief, especially with a subject like this which so often puts a woman into that hall of mirrors state of life continuing as if the world hasn’t, for you ,come to a bloody and terrible halt.

"Sending so much love to the Legend family, but also so much to the women and couples who have kept it quiet and suffered. I know there are so many.

"Thank you @chrissyteigen for making sure it is abundantly clear how devastating this is, and how life changing it can be without support. Let’s let the grieving decide what’s right for them. Send support or keep quiet . This is a really hard time to bear .Blessings and hugs to all x."

The caption was illustrated by a photo of a white board with a quote penned on.

The board read: "Some babies are born to be angels and given Heaven instead.

"They are carried inside of the hearts of broken-hearted parents and their families forever; Learning to fly with wings in paradise, where nothing can hurt them, instead of learning to walk on Earth; We grieve for them and what they might have been, asking why we couldn’t be together."

Kate shares 21-year-old daughter Lily with her ex-husband Michael Sheen.

Clea Harmer, Chief Executive at Sands (Stillbirth and neonatal death charity) told Mirror Online that Chrissy's decision to document the loss of Jack has and "enormous difference for others" by "breaking the silence" people experience after losing a baby.

She said: “We are so deeply sorry to hear that Chrissy Teigen and John Legend’s baby Jack has died during pregnancy.

"Our thoughts are with them and their family at this saddest of times and Sands is here for anyone whose baby has died in pregnancy, at birth or during infancy.

"By sharing this crushing loss so honestly on her social media in the very moment of her overwhelming grief, Chrissy has made an enormous difference for others by helping to break the silence and isolation many people experience after baby loss.”

Chrissy and John had announced their pregnancy in August.

The couple married in September 2013 after being together for six years.

They have two other children together - a four-year-old daughter named Luna and a two-year-old son named Miles.
