Keeping Up With The Kardashians was axed after the family's request for more money was refused by E! bosses, sources have claimed.
Kim Kardashian devastated millions of fans on Tuesday as she revealed the show will not be returning after its last series next year.
The reality TV star turned model and designer was careful not to give a reason in her parting statement, leaving the show's loyal followers wondering what went wrong.
Latest rumours suggest their decision to end the show, which ran for 14 years and 20 seasons, is because a request for more money was turned down by the television network.
It's claimed E! staff were not prepared to splash more cash in a bid to keep the family show running after the ratings have dropped in recent years.
The Kardashians, who found fame and fortune from the show, were reportedly paid $150million (£117.3m) for their previous five contracts.
But due to the coronavirus crisis, E!'s parent company NBCUniversal suffered a financial loss and were unable to offer the stars more money to continue, which saw the family quit, according to Page Six.
The outlet reported whenever the cast have previously threatened to quit in the past, they were offered more money to stay, but it wasn't the case this time around.
Insiders say the stars wanted to increase their money but the network was unable to provide the family's wish.
Ratings have noticeably dropped over the years.
Their season premiere in 2010 attracted 5.8million viewers but their most recent episode raked in just 1.6million, which perhaps affected the network's decision to increase their pay cheque.
At it's peak the show attracted an impressive 10million viewers who tuned in to see Kim's ill-fated marriage to Kris Humphries.
It's also been claimed that momager Kris Jenner pulled the plug on the show after three of her daughters reportedly threatened to quit, which left her with no choice but to call it a day.
However a source told The Sun how Khloe Kardashian and Scott Disick are "devastated" it is coming to an end.
Other reasons include Kim and Kanye's marital drama.
The rapper is refusing to put anything personal in the show, which has proved difficult for his wife to continue filming.
Mirror Online has contacted the Kardashian family's representative for comment.
