Manchester City and Lyon are in the quarterfinals of the Champions League, after eliminating two powerhouses of European football, Real Madrid and Juventus.
Varane’s Nightmare Allows Man City an Easy Win
Real Madrid’s center-back, Raphael Varane, will remember this clash forever. The French international made two massive mistakes, which would result in City’s goals. The final result of the match was 2-1 for the hosts, who continued their participation in the UCL after 4-2 in aggregate.
The first cardinal error happened in the ninth minute, when Gabriel Jesus took the ball from Varane, and colly assisted Raheem Sterling for 1-0. City would try to solve the match immediately, but failed to do it, and once Real recovered from the shock, the guests from Spain leveled the score.

A nice and ice-cold header beat Ederson for 1-1. It was the moment when Real created a swing, but couldn’t utilize it and deliver one more score.
City bounced back near the end of the half, and their surge extended to the second half. First, Sterling missed one good chance, then there were several threats on the other side, but without results.
The final result was set in the 68th minute when Varane made his second mistake, and this time it was Jesus who scored to propel the Citizens to the next stage.
Lyon Shocks Juventus and Ronaldo
Nobody saw Juventus experiencing something like this, as they stood for one of the biggest favorites for winning the Champions League this year.
After losing the first game in Lyon, the Old Lady was still a big favorite to advance to the next round, but the French club made a massive surprise in the end.
Memphis Depay scored the first goal in the clash, after converting a penalty made on Aouar. Betancur made a reckless challenge and the referee didn’t have any doubts but whistled for a foul. This happened after 12 minutes of play.

Miralem Pjanic took one free kick in the 43rd minute, but the ball struck Depay in his hand, and once again the referee pointed towards the white spot. Ronaldo didn’t have any problems to execute this one.
After this, Juventus started attacking and pressuring, and arguably the best player in the world, scored another hit in the 60th minute. It was a rocket that ended in the upper left corner of Lyon’s goal, and at that point, everybody believed in Juventus advance to the next stage. But that didn’t happen.
