Jo Brand has told how she felt “absolutely awful” after being accused of encouraging acid attacks after a gag about Nigel Farage.
Images of victims shamed the comic after she joked on Radio 4 that battery acid would be better thrown at the likes of the Brexit Party chief after he was hit by a milkshake.
Brand, who made it clear her words in May last year were “purely a fantasy”, was widely criticised, with former Ukip leader Farage calling for police involvement.
The TV regular said it was “unbearable” when pictures of victims were used to imply she had incited people to do likewise.
She said: “That made me feel absolutely awful, really terrible. I would have quite happily body-swerved that few months of my life to be honest.”
Speaking on Jay Rayner’s Out to Lunch podcast, Brand, 62, said: “I am quite an adolescent really. I like to be quite childish.
“Every now and then, it’s not deliberate, I end up doing things that annoy people.”
Joking about “maybe consciously” threatening her national treasure status, she insisted: “It was so obviously a joke.”
