Jesy Nelson has revealed that she will be spending time with her loved ones and doing the things that make her happy after announcing her departure from Little Mix.

The 29-year-old star, who has been with the band since it formed in 2011, confirmed on social media today that she was leaving the group for good.

Alongside her heartfelt statement, Jesy has admitted that she is "not sure" what the next chapter of her life will look like, however she firstly wants to spend time with her friends and family.

While Little Mix fans flocked to social media to praise Jesy, the songstress will now turn her attention away from the band after admitting the music industry took a 'toll on her mental health'.

Jesy penned a lengthy statement that she shared on Instagram on Monday evening to confirm that she would be leaving the band for good.

In the statement, she said that now is the time for her to behind reinvesting into herself.

"There comes a time in life when we need to reinvest in taking care of ourselves rather than focusing on making other people happy, and I feel like now is the time to begin the process," she wrote in the statement.

Jesy added: "I need to spend some time with the people I love, doing thing that make me happy. I'm ready to embark on a new chapter in my life - I'm not sure what it's going to look like right now, but I hope you'll still be there to support me.

The Little Mix star then thanked her loyal fans as well as bandmates Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards and Leigh-Anne Pinnock for all of the memories.

Since news of her official departure emerged, Jesy's bandmates have also taken to social media to express their support for Jesy - even though they were 'sad' about the news.

Jesy's announcement comes weeks after the singing sensation revealed that she was taking an extended-break from the band 'for private medical reasons'.

Jesy's absence from the band was first noted when she did not appear in the BBC final of their talent show The Search last month.
