The singer and actress opened up about having to all but beg for the part.
The reason why the producers were so hesitant to give her the role was apparently because J.Lo. had been typecast as ‘the maid’ until that point in her career.

In the end, the romantic comedy that starred Matthew McConaughey alongside Lopez went on to open at number 1 at the box office so it’s safe to say that no one regretted casting the actress after all.
And to add even more to her success, the premiere even coincided with the release of her sophomore album that quickly climbed the charts.

Now, however, Jennifer Lopez revealed that none of that would have happened for her if she had not managed to first convince director Adam Shankman to give her a chance to prove herself.
She described the type of roles she’d had before that point as ‘the maid, the Rosie Perez type roles, the dishwasher, the this, the that. I had to kind of break out of that and convince somebody to put me in the first romantic comedy, which I think was The Wedding Planner.’
J.Lo. recalled how she landed the part, saying that it was actually really simple: ‘I was, like you said, kind of hot at the time and you were my agent and you were asking for a certain price that you thought I merited and they were buckling back on us. Then, [Adam] came to one of my record signings and he said give her whatever she wants.’
