Jennifer Aniston has admitted she suffered "private breakdowns" and was often left too terrified to walk red carpets.
The Hollywood actress, 51, has opened up about her personal struggles in a candid new interview with the Los Angeles Times.
In the chat, she talks about her hit TV series The Morning Show in which she played telly presenter Alex Levy, who deals with a series of devastating personal and professional challenges.
Jennifer admits working on the series was "cathartic" as it forced her to examine the way she handles her own demons while putting on a brave face for the world.
She explained: "It was interesting for me to look at how I always have tried to normalise being fine and 'everything’s great, you know, this is all normal'...
"And then there are moments when you have your private breakdown or your 'Calgon, take me away' [a need to escape stress and relax] moments.
"To actually look at it from an actor brain observing it and acknowledging it, I had to look at it as opposed to pretending it doesn’t exist."
The actress went on to reveal she's had meltdowns like her onscreen alter-ego, and often dreaded walking red carpets.
She went on: "There have been moments - not to that level of hysteria - but moments of 'I don’t want to f**king go here,' 'I don’t want to walk out onto the carpet'...
"'I don’t want to be seen,' ‘I don’t want to be looked at and everyone’s going to be talking about me and judging me'... that’s real."
She added it felt good to be able to explore those issues as part of her character.
Jennifer said: "I just loved being able to walk into it and lean into it and not be ashamed of it..."
The Morning Show was Jennifer first project for Apple TV+ and she starred alongside her pal Reese Witherspoon, who played a reporter thrust into the spotlight when she lands an anchor job on national TV.
It was nominated for a clutch of gongs during Hollywood awards season earlier this year, with Jennifer walking away with the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series.
