Jamie Dornan and Emily Blunt have been hilariously mocked on social media for their Irish accents in the new movie Wild Mountain Thyme.
There was certainly no holding back when the trailer for the new film, described as a romantic Irish tale, dropped on Tuesday.
In the film, Emily and Jamie portray neighbouring farmers, Anthony and Rosemary, who pursue a winding romance set amid the picturesque landscapes of rural Ireland.
Christopher Walken and Jon Hamm also join the star-studded cast, and yet no-one appears to have nailed the correct accent according to Twitter critics.
Jamie, who is actually hails from Northern Ireland, appeared to be in the firing line and was already trending on Twitter earlier today.
"How in Christ’s name is Jamie Dornan’s Irish accent the worst one??" one fan wrote on Twitter.
"I am only managing about ten seconds of the Wild Mountain Thyme trailer per attempt and my thoughts and prayers are with all actual Irish people at this difficult time," joked another.
Other Twitter users also took issue the the title of the movie, which appears to be derived from the name of a Scottish folk song.
One critic wrote: "Jamie Dornan sounds like every non irish person trying to do an irish accent ever in Wild Mountain Thyme and that’s a bloody Scottish song anyway!!"
Leading lady Emily Blunt was also slammed by Twitter for her attempt at an Irish accent.
"Im frankly amazed Emily Blunt is THAT bad at an Irish accent and - scundered for him - but what is Jamie Dornan’s excuse?!" joked another user.
While many appear to have taken issue with the cast's accents, others have tried to look at the funny side.
The Embassy of Ireland USA Twitter profile appeared to defend the movie, and had an entertaining comeback for the critics.
"To be fair, Irish accents are hard (we struggle with them at times)," the message read.
"But otherwise #WildMountainThyme looks great. And, in Jamie Dornan & Emily Blunt, presents a remarkably realistic depiction, visually at least, of the average Irish man & woman. Truly, we are a beautiful people."
The film is set for initial release on December 11 2020.
