James Argent was left devastated and in tears as he comforted former-girlfriend Gemma Collins when she revealed she had suffered a miscarriage.

The 32-year-old The Only Way Is Essex star was left shocked when 39-year-old Gemma revealed the sad news that she had lost their first baby together.

The reality star couple were unaware they were expecting a child – with Gemma making the sad discovery that she had lost the child during lockdown.

Gemma shared the heartbreaking news this week during an appearance on Loose Women – while Arg says he has tried to comfort his ex over the sad news.

A source close to the star told The Sun: "Arg was very upset and sad when Gemma told him about the miscarriage, but he was mainly concentrating on comforting her.

"Neither of them knew Gemma was pregnant, they didn’t plan on starting a family.

"He didn’t have any idea that she was going to speak about it on Loose Women this week, but he’s not annoyed.

"He knows Gemma and wasn’t surprised."

Gemma opened up about her miscarriage during an appearance on Loose Women this week while discussing suffering from Polycystic Ovary Syndrome.

She said: “I did go through a very sad miscarriage in lockdown. Due to PCOS I just thought that I was having an unusually heavy period. I actually left it 10 days.

“I can remember thinking the month before, ‘Ooh, my boobs seem really perky!’ It's been no secret recently that I've found my boobs so heavy in my life, I'm turning 40 this year, I will not be taking them into the next decade with me.”

“So, I thought, ‘Oh, maybe I won't have the operation, I've been working out, maybe they're lifting up a bit.’ Then 3 or 4 days into a heavy period really realising it's not like a usual period… but thinking there's been a lot going on lately, maybe my body's been a bit stressed.

“It went on for 10 days between 9am and midday, I was getting through 10 super sanitry towels. Then it was my sister-in-law, not to be graphic, but I had to show her.

“I said, ‘I don't think this is normal’. I rang my doctor and he said, ‘You need to go straight to the hospital’. It was very sad. But it does make me realise that, potentially there is hope there for me for the future.”

Gemma sadly miscarried previously in 2012 – and revealed in her autobiography, Basically, that she had made the decision to have an abortion earlier in life when she felt she wasn’t in a position to support a child.

James had said just two months ago he envisioned marrying Gemma and starting a family with her.
