The ruined castle said to be the location for the next series of I'm A Celebrity is going to be closed to the public until January.

Show bosses are believed to have picked Gwrych Castle in north Wales as the site for the 2020 show after being forced to scrap plans to film in the Australian jungle.

Cranes were spotted at the location earlier this month as the building undergoes repair work to keep the walls from crumbing.

The show has dropped a major hint the 2020 series will be filmed at the historic site, but they have yet to confirm it.

However, another huge hint that the castle has been booked out for I'm A Celebrity was posted on the castle's Instagram page as bosses revealed the site will be closed to the public from August 23 until the new year.

They wrote: "Gwrych Castle and Estate will be temporarily closing to the public at 5pm on Sunday 23rd August until New Year.

"Keep checking our website and social media for updates."

A post on the castle's official social media page also revealed the crew onsite is carrying out repair works to maintain the building's structure.

The note read: "Day one of our planned emergency works to conserve the central keep at the castle.

"This area is a mix of medieval timbers and Georgian masonry."

A later update added: "The emergency works are progressing well!

"Helping to preserve one of Britain’s most important buildings."

The iconic castle dates back to 1822 and boasts 300 acres of grounds - which is large enough for production.

It's also believed to have reputation for ghost sightings in the local area which could be a huge shake-up for reality TV.

I'm A Celebrity is usually filmed in Australia, but due to the coronavirus pandemic it is unable to go ahead Down Under, with ITV confirming they have switched the location to a castle in Wales.

ITV and Gwrych Castle are yet to confirm it's been chosen as the location ahead of the new series this autumn.
