I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here will be adding a new level of terror to this year's competition as it is said to be taking place within the confines of a haunted castle.

The long running reality competition is relocating from the sizzling heat of the Australian jungle to film in an abandoned castle in Wales after the coronavirus pandemic torpedoed plans to jet cast and crew Down Under for the 2020 series.

And while it will be the first time the show has filmed in the UK – and under winter conditions – in its 18 year history, there could be a supernatural reason for temperatures to drop even further.

The upcoming 20th season of the show is tipped to be filmed within the grounds of 200-year-old Gwrych Castle folly in North Wales – which for years has been rumoured to be haunted.

The castle ruins are said to be stalked by the ghost of past owner, Winifred Cochrane, the Countess of Dundonald, who died in 1924.

Local legends suggest the ghost of the Duchess appears floating above a first floor window in a room with no floor boards due to the wood rotting away.

While other ghosts of former gamekeepers and that of a servant girl who died on the grounds are also said to have materialised on the land.

The addition of a haunted twist to the long running series is expected to add new excitement to the tired format of I’m A Celeb.

A show source told The Sun on Sunday: “Producers are chuffed with the new location — they’re excited for a change in scenery this year.

“Obviously upping sticks and moving to a completely new location was a tough decision, but they feel confident it’s the right one.

“The Bushtucker trial crew, who work tirelessly all year round, have been working overtime to come up with some terrifying new trials and challenges.

“It’s a brilliant move for viewers as celebs will have no idea what to expect. It’s going to be compelling viewing.”

The publication also suggests night vision cameras will hope to capture spooky goings on on camera – while celebs will be left scared witless by the new ghostly twist of the show.
