I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! might look different for the 2020 season – but many elements will be very similar despite the show relocating from Australia to Wales.
Star contestants will still face stomach churning food challenges, while campsite costumes will be similar, but waterproofed, as the traditionally sun-drenched series faces likely rain-soaked scenes.
ITV have made the drastic decision to relocate the long running series from the Australian jungle to an abandoned castle in the wilds of Wales as coronavirus restrictions made making the show from Down Under look impossible.
According to The Sun, contestants will face ram’s testicles and bull’s penis as alternative eating challenges to the traditional Kangaroo anus.
While the lack of a waterfall shower will be replaced with a primitive tin tub for the stars to bathe and wash in.
As a twist, it is expected hot water can be won as a reward for those who successfully complete trials.
And the usual camouflaged costumes worn by stars in the jungle will be given a British winter-style make-over with extra thermals and waterproof materials used to make the outfits.
I’m A Celeb is usually filmed in a disused banana plantation in New South Wales in Australia – which borders the state of Victoria which has had to implement emergency Covid-19 lockdown measures in recent weeks due to flare ups of the deadly disease.
Flights to and from Brisbane and the UK have been impacted by outbreaks with flights grounded for September – prompting fears cast and crew might not make it out to the filming location in the Southern Hemisphere.
Show bosses fear that booking crew and flights now could lead to disaster when it comes to filming the show come November should the ongoing pandemic disrupt flights or filming plans.
The show is instead heading to Wales – the first time ever in I’m A Celeb’s 18-year history that it will be filmed in the UK.
While the series will be lacking in sunshine, the crew behind the making of the show are adamant it will be as gripping in the depths of British winter as it is in the highs of Australian summer.
A source told The Sun: “Everyone is dedicated to making this series as brilliant as all the others.”
They added: “Ant and Dec and the same production team are all on board and everyone is 110 per cent dedicated to making this series as brilliant as all the others.”
They continued: “The team have had many, many different contingency plans in play to deal with all the various possibilities that Covid-19 has presented.
“However as time went on it became increasingly obvious that as one problem is solved, another appeared and there came a point where producers had to make tough decisions.”
