Fans of I'm A Celebrity were left green with envy as they watched the campmates hug each other amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The first episode of the 20th series aired on ITV tonight and viewers were left feeling a hint of jealously when the stars got to share a cuddle with their co-stars as they met for the first time.

It appears those watching from home were excited for the celebrities getting to hug each other, as most of the population have not shared a hug for months due to social distancing restrictions.

Taking to Twitter, fans were rooting with joy for the stars as they approved of the on-screen hugging.

"The celebs really teasing us tonight by hugging each other when we canny even hug our nans," one joked.

Another shared: "Touching strangers and hugging on #ImaCeleb looks pretty f**king great tbqhwy. [sic]"

"I'm so jealous of all the hugs happening on #ImACeleb," another said. "I miss hugging people so much."

A fourth penned: "I'm loving #ImACeleb no distancing or mask....even Ant & Dec are standing close together, everyone hugging...it's just brilliant."

Some viewers were confused by the celebrities' arrival as five of them turned up to the Welsh castle in separate helicopters, but went on to break any sort of social distancing rules by hugging in the show.

A viewer wrote on Twitter: "Hang on a second.. so they are hugging/kissing eachother yet aren't allowed in the same helicopter? #ImACeleb."

"Separate helicopters for Covid ‘Celebrities’ start hugging the second they disembark’ That makes sense #ImACeleb."

Tonight's episode saw the new campmates meet each other for the first time before being thrown into their first group Bushtucker Trial.

Former EastEnders star Shane Richie and Radio 1 DJ Jordan North will be first to compete in the second Trial when the show continues tomorrow night.
