Grace Jones’ unexpected song with Beyonce years after slating the Destiny’s Child star

Music legend Grace is among the names collaborating with Queen Bey on her upcoming album, Renaissance – despite laying in to younger singers a few years ago for copying her and for focusing on money instead of music

Fans of Beyonce are eagerly anticipating her fast approaching seventh solo studio album – but might be surprised to see Grace Jones among the names collaborating with the star on the record.

The 40-year-old chart topping star last released a full solo album way back in 2016 with the release of Lemonade.

And now fans are counting down the minutes until her new album, called Renaissance, is due for release – with the record finally out this coming Friday.

But the inclusion of 74-year-old Grace might seem an unexpected addition to the album as the music legend is due to feature on a track titled Move.

Grace previously had some slightly less-than-kind words to say about Beyonce – as well as a numbed of other female musicians – when she released her autobiography, I’ll Never Write My Memoirs, in 2015.

Within the book, she commented: “Trends come along and people say, ‘Follow that trend.’

“There’s a lot of that around at the moment: ‘Be like Sasha Fierce (Beyonce).

"Be like Miley Cyrus. Be like Rihanna. Be like Lady Gaga. Be like Rita Ora and Sia. Be like Madonna.’ I cannot be like them, except to the extent that they are already being like me.”

“I have been so copied by those people who have made fortunes that people assume I am that rich. But I did things for the excitement, the dare, the fact that it was new, not for the money, and too many times I was the first, not the beneficiary.”

Despite the put down, Grace was revealed to be on track 10 of Bey’s new album when the full track listing was uncovered in advance of the record’s release.

The album was preceded last month by the first single, titled Break My Soul, which included a sample of the 1990 Robin S song, Show Me Love.

The song has had something of a revival this year as Beyonce is not the first person to have sampled the track in 2022.

Back in March, British singer Charli XCX included a sample of the tune on her single, Used To Know Me, from her album Crash.

The original track by Robin S reached number 6 in the UK charts – and number 5 in the USA.

TMZ reported last month that Beyonce’s use of Robin’s song had sparked a bonus for the ‘90s singer.

They reported: “Robin tells us ever since Break dropped, she's been flooded by record labels, corporations and artists ... all looking to work with her.

“Robin says her team's phones are ringing nonstop with inquiries about licensing her Show Me Love master recordings for various purposes.
