Even though many had doubts about Hayward’s value, especially after three not so shinny years with the Boston Celtics, it seems that he still generates a lot of interest around the league.

The reports suggest that the forward and the Charlotte Hornets are about to sign a deal that would see him earn $30 million annually. After deciding to opt-out of his fourth year with the Celtics, Hayward became an unrestricted free agent, forgoing $34.2 million he was about to earn in the last season in Boston.

The Hornets got an experienced player who would add strength and versatile efficiency to its backcourt. Hayward is a player known for his high shooting percentage and diversified attack. Even though he didn’t have the possibility of showing that consistently in Boston, due to his frequent injuries, Hayward would occasionally indicate that he still possesses a killer mentality.

He missed 142 games in three years, the majority due to an ankle and leg injury earned after just six minutes of playing for the Celtics in the regular season. This is not the first time he and the Hornets got in touch, as the player who was a restricted free agent in 2014 signed a sheet with the franchise from North Carolina, but the Jazzers matched the offer.

The Hornets are reportedly waiving their French international Nicola Batum, whose last year of the contract is worth $27.1 million. His productivity deteriorated dramatically in the past season, posting just 3.6 points in 22 matches.

Charlotte will have a young team, but it is expected to see more moves on the market made by Michael Jordan and his executives. They took LaMelo Ball from third place at the recent NBA draft, one of the biggest talents of his generation.

After being quiet for a couple of years, the Hornets are now trying to create a team capable of reaching the East’s playoffs, and according to the experts, their next move would be to acquire one high-caliber frontcourt player. At the moment, they have Bismack Biyombo, Cody Zeller, and PJ Washington, but that is insufficient for making a notable result in the fierce competition in East, which gets tougher and tougher as years go by.
