Gogglebox: Mary Killen and Giles star on show in 2021
Mary Killen has spoken about the illness she suffered which led to her quitting alcohol for good.
The Gogglebox star, who is known for passing comment on TV programmes with her husband Giles Wood on the Channel 4 show, has said why she has binned off her beloved glasses of wine about four years ago.
It was at that time that she suffered a bout of campylobacter food poisoning and from then she has been turned off alcohol and will now only have soft drinks.
She thinks it was "grubby" vegetables from her garden that could have been the catalyst for a five-day bout of food poisoning, which required antibiotics to bring it under control.

While it was home-grown veg which was the culprit, the smell of alcohol since then has made Mary feel unwell and she is now repulsed by the thought of alcohol.
Speaking about it, Mary told the Daily Mail: "Immediately afterward, I found I couldn’t face alcohol.
"I remember going to a house party on the Isle of Mull a short time later.
"All sorts of wonderful wines were being served and I couldn’t touch any of them."

She continued : "It made me recoil — reminding me of when I was pregnant with our two daughters, both of whom are now in their 20s.
"It has completely lost its appeal. I don’t even like the smell of it."
The infection, which is called Campylobacteriosis, is caused by bacteria from contaminated food and water.

Those who suffer from this would commonly have symptoms which include diarrhoea, stomach pains, cramps, fever and vomiting.
Mary admitted that the strongest drink can stomach nowadays is lemonade.
