Ghost Of Tsushima Is Now The Fastest-Selling New Title Ever Released On The PlayStation 4

The hits just keep coming for PlayStation in the final major year for the PlayStation 4.

With hugely popular exclusives such as Final Fantasy VII Remake, Resident Evil 3, and The Last of Us Part 2 making waves in the gaming world this year, it came as no shock to many that Sony’s newest title rocketed to a record-setting release.

Ghost of Tsushima, which was developed by Sucker Punch, has officially become the fastest-selling new title in the history of PlayStation 4. It is likely to go down in history with that title, as the PlayStation 5 is set to hit stores this holiday season.

Ghost of Tsushima is now PS4’s fastest selling first-party original IP debut with more than 2.4 million units sold through globally in its first three days of sales,” Sony said on the official PlayStation Twitter account. “Congratulations @SuckerPunchProd, and thank you to fans around the world for taking part in Jin’s journey.”

Ghost of Tsushima is an open world adventure that puts you in the armor of Jin Sakai, the Samurai lord of Tsushima in feudal Japan. When the island is invaded by Mongol armies, Jin has to abandon the honor code of the samurai to assault the Mongol invaders with guerilla tactics that fly in the face of every value he has ever been taught.

The previous record set for a new title was Horizon Zero Dawn, which claimed the crown in 2017. Of course, the numbers put up by Ghost of Tsushima still don’t compare to an established franchise like The Last of Us: Part 2. That long-awaited sequel sold 4 million copies in the first three days following its launch.

Ghost of Tsushima has been warmly received by most critics. There has been some grumbling about repetitive elements and a formulaic plot, but for the most part, it seems as if Jin is joining characters like Kratos and Ellie as PlayStation mainstays.

The hack and slash combat of Ghost of Tsushima is incredibly fun and satisfying. The visuals are nothing short of stunning, and the voice acting is first class.

Despite some frustrating hiccups that accompanied the game’s launch, it has already seen a major update, adding a lethal difficulty, in which one slash of a sword will be enough to kill you.

Ghost of Tsushima also has a mode where you can play the game in Japanese with English subtitles in a grainy black and white format. This makes it look and feel like a samurai film of old and adds some definite replay value to what is already a very impressive title.

Ghost of Tsushima is currently available on the PlayStation 4 console.
