George Michael’s seven-bed mansion sells for £19m – more than twice what he paid

The seven-bedroom London mansion which was owned by George Michael has been sold for £19 million.

The hefty price tag is more than double that the Wham! singer paid, when he snapped up the Highgate property for £8 million.

The singer bought the house, which comes with a swimming pool, in 2002 and he lived there until his death in 2016, aged 53.

George died of a heart attack and liver complications on Christmas Day and the house was bequeathed to his father Kyriacos Panayiotou, who has reportedly sold it four years after it was left to him.

The Sun has reported that land registry papers show that the Grade II listed building in North London has been bought by a couple who are directors of medical communications firms.

The sumptuous abode was once the home of Eurythmics singer Annie Lennox and has been let in the past for an incredible £15,000 a week via an exclusive agency, which lists Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie among its clients.

After George's death, fans created a shrine outside the house, as thousands paid their respects to the celebrated singer.

The shrine was removed in 2018 but fans still believe that the house should be kept as a "beautiful museum" to the Wake Me Up Before You Go Go! singer.

Another fan declared: “That house was, is and will be forever George’s house.”

It will bring to a close another chapter to George's legacy, which has seen his boyfriend when he passed away, Fadi Fawaz, claiming he took photos of the dead singer's body after being the first to discover him.

The Daily Star reported in March that Fadi said in video posted to Facebook: "I took pictures of him when he was dead."

Also, the newspaper claimed Fadi said he feared people were "out to get him" over the images.

It's alleged the video was deleted two hours after it was posted on Fadi's official Facebook page.
