George Michael's ex Fadi Fawaz arrested after 'hitting cars with hammer'

Fadi Fawaz, the ex-lover of George Michael who found the superstar dead in his bed on Christmas Day 2016, was filmed after allegedly hitting cars with a hammer before police pulled up to arrest him

George Michael 's ex-lover has been arrested after allegedly hitting cars with a hammer.

Fadi Fawaz, 47, who found the singer dead in his bed on Christmas Day 2016, was filmed by a London resident as he walked down the street wielding a hammer.

The man behind the camera accused Fadi of hitting cars with a hammer, with Fadi insisting "It was my car" as he walked away.

The once ripped and preened hair stylist was caught on camera in Bethnal Green, East London on Friday evening, walking the streets dressed in black tracksuit bottoms and a red tracksuit top and flip flops.

It's alleged he struck a number of cars with a hammer, including a Mercedes, a BMW and a Toyota Auris.

In a video obtained by The Sun, Fadi is seen crossing the road as a police car pulls up with its sirens blaring.

Fadi appears to hold his hand up to the car as it comes to a stop and two officers exit to approach him.

One officer goes over to Fadi, telling him to drop the hammer, before taking it from his hand and dropping it to the ground.

The officer grabs hold of Fadi's sleeve and leads him away from the middle of the road to a safer spot where he was put in handcuffs.

A police riot van then pulls up as Fadi is held at the side of the road, stood between two cars with an officer holding onto the handcuffs behind Fadi's back.

At least three more officers get out of the van and walk towards those already on scene, while another van is seen pulling into the street in the background.

The newspaper reports that Fadi has been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage among other charges.

It's said that Fadi had been seen wandering the area earlier in the week looking for accommodation.

He is known to have been living in budget hotels and on the streets ever since he was kicked out of George's London flat one year ago.

Fadi was cut out of the Wham! star's £97 million will.

Residents in Bethnal Green had rushed out into the street after hearing several loud banging noises.

Kamal Hussain, 43, a jeweller whose wife's Toyota was damaged, said: "He looked as if he had been living rough and it’s hard to believe this was George Michael’s ex.

"I heard all the commotion, then saw him as the police arrived."

He added: "I recognised him from pictures of him with George. He clearly needs help. George’s family should not have just left him high and dry."

Pictures taken of the cars revealed large dents in the sides.

Police told the newspaper that they were called to "reports of a man damaging cars with a hammer" and that a man in his 40s had been taken into custody and subsequently released under investigation.
