Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout Review – Why This Addictive Party Game Might Just Be One Of The Best Games Released This Summer

Fall Guys is addictive, hilarious and heartbreakingly frustrating. Best played with a group of mates, in fact, it’d be bizarre to play the game on your own, it might just be one of the best games released this summer. This is, after all, a time where getting together with friends online is more important than ever.

Developed by Mediatonic and published by Devolver Digital (yes, that’s the same publisher who brought the deliciously gruesome Carrion to the world), Fall Guys is a Battle Royale type game that is the very definition of the last man standing.

With minigame modes obviously inspired by greats of the genre such as Takeshi’s Castle, Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout is a high-octane scramble for the finishing line, with the wobbly jelly bean characters controlled by 59 other players.

You can team up with your friends but it’s still one-for-all. This just means that if you repeatedly fall off the map (which is inevitable, pretty much) then you can spectate your friends as they try and finish the game.

Each minigame has a qualifying level as everyone tries to work their way to be the very last Fall Guy standing. It’s pretty simple. Get to the finishing line before everyone else and you’ll qualify for the next game.

Games like Fake Doors and Tail Tag are just fun. Fall Guys is a game that isn’t shy about its intentions and gets straight to the point. You’re meant to sit back and laugh like an idiot when you play this game.

This isn’t the first game of its type. You can easily make comparisons to a game like Human Fall Flat (even has the same word in the title), or a game like Gang Beasts. What sets Fall Guys apart?

It has to be the accessibility of its multiplayer. While a game like Gang Beasts was strictly a party game, best played with a small group of friends, Fall Guys takes it to the next level. These lobbies of 60 players are much bigger than any other game of this type.

Lastly, why is it one of the best games released this summer? It’s light-hearted, fun, and gets friends together online. Out on Steam or PlayStation, I recommend checking out this game if you’re looking for a laidback way to chill with some pals for an hour or two.
