Sir Elton John has hit out at music rival Sir Rod Stewart as their feud deepens after decades of bitching at each other.
The 73-year-old Yellow Brick Road singer has a real bee in his bonnet about Rod, 75, and he is not prepared to make up with chart-topping performer anytime soon.
Elton and Rod have known each other for 50 years and much of their love-hate relationship has been handbags at 20 paces but their digs at each other have become sharper over the years culminating in their 'banter' turning into a full fledged feud.
Elton has claimed that their relationship "soured" after Rod spoke out against him on TV and it has been downhill for the pair ever since, with the pair ignoring any olive branches that are proferred.
In the paperback version of Elton’s autobiography Me, the singer dedicates a chapter to his fallout with Rod and there are some spectacular swipes at him in the process.
The latest spat came after Rod said that Elton's farewell tour, which encompassed 300 dates, was "dishonest" and "stinks of selling tickets”.
Rod also took aim at Elton on a US chat show, saying he would never announce his own retirement as that was not very “rock and roll”.
Elton vented his fury at Rod in the pages of his book, writing: "I certainly didn’t feel like I needed a lecture on the feral spirit of rock and roll from someone who’d spent most of the last decade crooning his way through the Great American Songbook and Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas.”
It didn't stop there either as Elton continued: "What’s more, I thought he had a f***ing cheek, complaining about me promoting a tour while he was sat on a TV show promoting his own tour.”
Rod hit back with a veiled apology in which he managed to get another dig in: "She (Elton) doesn’t like me at the moment. I was bang out of order. Correct, but bang out of order.”
Rod blamed the TV chat show's producers for plying him with alcohol before he went on and made the explosive remarks.
He explained: "They make sure you get drunk before you go on. Four big shots of neat vodka and with me being a butch man, I knocked them all back.
“I said that 300 dates in three years sounded a bit money-grabbing to me. Look, I know where’s he’s coming from.
"He’s just got two kids very, very late in life but I’m planning my tours around my kids. I think he’ll miss it. I can’t wait for the next show.”
Elton said that he offered a peaceful end to their fallout but was snubbed by Rod and the ill-feeling has grown again.
He claims that he was angry with Rod for months after his comments in 2018 but when he calmed down, sent a message to him saying that they had “known each other far too long to fall out over something like that”.
Unfortunately, Elton had a message back from Rod's manager claiming that he was on "constant vocal rest" between shows so was unable to speak to Elton on the phone.
Elton for his part pointed out that Rod was still able to speak on TV chat shows but has never heard back from him.
Elton added: "I had no idea what I’d done to upset him so much. Which was ironic, given the hours I’d put in over the years deliberately trying to annoy him.”
