Strictly: Ellie Taylor announced as contestant

Ellie Taylor has been announced as the ninth star joining Strictly Come Dancing 2022.

The BBC One latin and ballroom show is back once again for a brand new series, with a new set of famous faces trading their usual day job to take to the dance floor including the likes of Loose Women star Kaye Adams, Coronation Street actress Kym Marsh and Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps' comedian Will Mellor.

Bros legend Matt Goss was the latest celebrity to be announced as the eighth star, with Ellie Taylor now confirming on ITV's Lorraine that they will dust off their dance shoes in the coming weeks. Speaking to host Ranvir Singh, she admitted that she was very nervous but was looking forward to being on the show. Describing her ideal partner, she said: "I want someone who's patient. I need a tall, patient person."

"I've got a list of music tracks on my phone - it's getting longer and longer," she said, revealing she was already thinking about the music. "The dancing bit is what is completely out of my comfort zone."

She added: "I've watched the show for years so to be able to take to the dance floor is a dream come true, for both me and mum who is a Strictly super fan. At the moment I'm focusing on the excitement and glitter and choosing to ignore the fact that I have the dancing ability of a newly born giraffe. Bring it on!"

Ellie began her career as a stand-up comedian and has appeared on a number of shows, including Mock The Week, The Mash Report and Live at the Apollo. She also hosts Channel 4's The Great Pottery Showdown - which Brad Pitt happens to be a fan of - and is set to co-present a new Netflix quiz show with Danny Dyer.

Meanwhile, Matt Goss was announced as the latest Strictly star yesterday, making the announcement on This Morning with hosts Josie Cunningham and Craig Doyle where he admitted he was excited but nervous too. "I’m excited, I’m nervous. You have the conversation and then you go about your day and you think, ‘I’ve got to dance.’ I’m eating everything that’s favourable to Spandex. I’ve got to make sure it’s alright, I’m excited," he said.

"I’ve been almost reclusive. I come in [to the country], I work and go back to America. I just thought, ‘You know what, it’s time for me to come home, just do something completely out of my comfort zone.'" He added: "I’m quite shy off stage. I just have to face all those demons and just learn."

Coronation Street's Kym Marsh - who played Michelle Connor on the ITV soap - was also excited about taking to the dance floor. She said in a statement at the time: "I’ve considered doing Strictly for years but the timings never worked out.

"I’m so delighted that this year they have! I’m a huge fan of the show and can’t believe I’m going to go from watching at home in my pyjamas to actually dancing in front of the judges in a glittery dress, it’s unreal!"

Fellow Corrie star Will said he was feeling "chuffed" about signing up for the show, but admitted: "Not going to lie, it's totally out of my comfort zone and I know it will be a huge challenge but that's what life is all about."
