Ellen DeGeneres savagely shamed audience member who took extra free gift for sister

An unearthed clip from 2017 shows that Ellen DeGeneres did not mind if she caused audience members embarrassment when they came to see her show being taped

Ellen DeGeneres, 62, has often been openly mean to celebrity guests on her show.

And an unearthed clip from 2017 shows that as well as famous faces, she does not mind shaming audience members - when she got the opportunity to do so.

Three years ago, on an episode of the American host's talk show, she embarrassed a fan named Nancy who was sat in the live studio audience.

She targeted Nancy after she was filmed secretly taking extra items of free merchandise that had been laid out for ticket holders to take before filming started.

Later on, Ellen played the clip live for the audience and then pointed Nancy out and jibed at her.

Nancy grew red-faced as she explained that she took the extra stuff as she wanted to give it to her sister who was unable to attend.

Unimpressed and in a bid to turn the audience against her, Ellen then hit back: "A lot of people's sisters couldn't come."

She then continued: "You are one of those people who go trick or treating and take the whole bowl!"

Nancy responded: "No!" before Ellen ordered her to the 'Ellen jail'.

For months, Ellen has found herself engulfed in accusations of bullying behaviour by employees, past guest, and fellow celebs – with many calming her mean nature is common knowledge among the Hollywood elite.

Last week, Variety revealed Ellen and her show were being investigated amid allegations of racism, bullying and sexual harassment behind the scenes of the show – with allegations Ellen “turned a blind eye” to the shameful events.

NBC Entertainment Chairman Paul Telegdy is part of the team overseeing the investigation – with a source claiming the exec is a big fan of James Corden and is lining him up to take over.

However, TODAY report that Telepictures have confirmed that Ellen will return to the stage to host the 18th season of her talk show.

The online outlet were told by a source close to the show's production that Ellen has not got to worry about being replaced as “no one is stepping in or taking over,” though the internal probe by Warner Media is “still ongoing” and involves a third-party firm.

DeGeneres’ personal spokesperson confirmed to the outlet that The Ellen DeGeneres Show is set to return to airwaves Sept 9.

Meanwhile, reports last week suggested Ellen was preparing to walk from her show as accusations of “mean” behaviour continued to mount against the star.

A show insider told the Daily Mail: "She feels she can’t go on and the only way to recover her personal brand from this is to shut down the show."

They added that the "truth is that she knew what was going on".

Earlier this week, staff hit out at Ellen for putting the blame at executive producers' feet.

A staffer also told the publication: "Don't think for a minute anything she has said in that apology means anything. She created and then enabled this toxic culture to go on for so long."
