Ellen DeGeneres Receives Support From Katy Perry Amid Talk Show Controversy

In a recent Tweet, Katy Perry has expressed her support for ‘friend’ Ellen DeGeneres amid the controversy surrounding the talk show. Warner Bros. is currently investigating the talk show after there were reports of workplace toxicity. Katy has been a frequent guest on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and wanted to share her support for Ellen in a couple of tweets on August 4.

“I know I can’t speak for anyone else’s experience besides my own but I want to acknowledge that I have only ever had positive takeaways from my time with Ellen & on the @theellenshow,” wrote Katy. In her second Tweet, she added “I think we all have witnessed the light & continual fight for equality that she has brought to the world through her platform for decades. Sending you love & a hug, friend @TheEllenShow.”

Back in July, Warner Bros. started an investigation after there were allegations of a “toxic work environment.” Ellen spoke out in a long letter to her employees, addressing this issue. She explained that the show would be “a place of happiness,” where everyone is respected. Unfortunately, as the show grew, things changed since more people were hired, explained Ellen in her letter:

“As we’ve grown exponentially, I’ve not been able to stay on top of everything and relied on others to do their jobs as they knew I’d want them done. Clearly some didn’t. That will now change and I’m committed to ensuring this does not happen again.” However, she promised in that letter that she would continue to “push myself and everyone around me to learn and grow.”

A Warner Bros. spokesperson stated that they are taking steps to implement some changes to make the workplace an environment based on respect and inclusion. The Ellen DeGeneres Show will return on TV on September 9. We do not know whether or not these issues will be mentioned on air.
