Ellen DeGeneres and wife Portia de Rossi 's Los Angeles mansion has been burglarised.

The talk show host, 62, had expensive jewellery and watches stolen from her, in a crime that cops believe took place "due to the victim's celebrity status".

Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office believe Ellen and Portia were "targeted" on July 4, as cops have launched an extensive investigation.

There is no word on the value of the stolen items taken from the home, and it's not yet known if the pair - who have been married since 2008 - were at home at the time of the robbery.

According to TMZ, cops have since advised residents of Montecito against posting on social media that they're going on holiday, which they say attracts thieves.

There have been a number of celebrity home break-ins in recent months, with authorities now trying to find out if this robbery was in any way connected to those.

MirrorOnline has contacted Ellen and Portia's reps for comment.

Ellen and Portia snapped up the 8,188-square-foot Balinese-style home in early 2019 for an eye-watering $27million.

Ellen has also been presenting her self-titled talk show from the comfort of her living room amid the pandemic.

Other celebs who live in Montecito include Ashton Kutcher and wife Mila Kunis, as well as Oprah Winfrey.

Oprah is actually Ellen's next-door neighbour, and has a 42-acre estate known as the Promised Land.

The pair have many times spoken about being each other's neighbour.

Speaking on The Ellen Show, Ellen told Oprah: "I always talk about this, that we're neighbours up in Santa Barbara. But now we're really neighbours - now we're so close that we have a fence line. I'm going to cut a hole in your fence."

Oprah then said: "I'm literally over the fence line. I live over the fence from Ellen. Can you believe it?"

Mila Kunis has also been open about how close she lives to Ellen during a previous appearance on her show.

She explained: "Me and Ellen are neighbours and I'll let you in on a little secret...she's a tad bit nosey.

"She's that lady that knows everything that's going on in the nieghbourhood. But here's what she doesn't know, sometimes I peek over her fence."

Ellen has been in hot water in recent months after a number of former employees accused her of creating a hostile environment away from the cameras.

Backlash has been snowballing after allegations that Ellen was "mean" and "rude" to her former colleagues and guests on the show - something her camp has denied.

And in recent weeks her former and current employees claimed to BuzzFeed News that they experienced racism when the cameras stopped rolling.

One employee said the "'be kind' bull***t" was "all for show".

Others alleged that they were fired for taking medical leave or bereavement days to attend family funerals - with one woman even saying she faced racist comments and actions from higher ups.

The Ellen DeGeneres Show has been on TV for nearly two decades since 2003.
