EastEnders icon June Brown has been advised by doctors not to quit smoking as it might have an adverse effect on her health – according to her on-screen son.
The 93-year-old played soap legend Dot Cotton from 1985 to February this year – starring in 2,350 episodes of the BBC show.
He on screen son, Nick Cotton - played by John Altman – featured on the soap from 1985 until the character was killed off in February 2015.
June and 68-year-old John are still close and the younger actor frequently visits the soap icon at her home – and has given an update on her cigarette smoking habits.
And it is claimed that the actress has been given the bizarre health advice by doctors to continue smoking as she enjoys her 90s.
John told The Sun: “She is still smoking, unfortunately, but the doctors have told her not to stop now."
The former soap actor continued: “She loves her ciggies."
He added: “She smokes at least ten a day.”
The Sun made the claim that if June quit the ciggies “she might keel over with the shock” following her seven decade habit.
June previously attempted to quit real cigarettes by switching to E-Cigarettes, but is believed to have returned to real cigarettes.
It was announced in February this year that June had quit EastEnders after 35 years.
Reports suggested she had grown frustrated with the storylines her character was being given.
While there were also reports at the time that her eyesight was suffering and impeding her ability to read lines.
However, John undermined the reports of failing eyesight.
