Demi Lovato has opened up about her incredible journey two years after she almost died after suffering from an overdose.

The 27-year-old singer, who excitedly announced that she was engaged yesterday, took to social media to reflect on the moment that doctors saved her life.

Sharing the moving posts with her 88.7 million Instagram followers, Demi also posted a brief video that her fiancé had recorded shortly before proposing.

It marks exactly two years since Demi - who was 25 at the time - was rushed to hospital after suffering a drug overdose.

"Today is my miracle day," Demi began in her lengthy message.

"I'm so blessed to have one. It represents how the Dr's at Cedar's Sinai saved my life. How my life has become something beyond my wildest dreams.

"Only 2 years after that terrible day, I'm engaged to the love of my life, and I can genuinely say I feel free of my demons. Each and everyone."

The former Disney star, who has battled addiction as well as an eating disorder, went on to reveal that her faith had helped her massively.

She added: "I never thought this feeling was possible. And it's not just because I fell in love (although that didn't hurt), but because over the past 2 years, I've done more work on myself than I have in my entire life. Things that used to keep me down for weeks or even months, pass like tropical storms because my relationship with God has provided me with infinite security.

"Long before I had an engagement ring on my ring finger, I had the word "me" to remind myself that no matter what, I vow to love myself.

"You can't full love another without loving yourself first.

The songstress finished off her touching post by thanking her loved ones and her fans for their ongoing support.

"Thank you God for this peace and understanding but most of all giving me the strength to fight through my darkest times. Thank you to my family, friends and fans for always supporting me and respecting my privacy regarding this journey.. I love you all," she wrote.

Demi's enormous social media fan base have widely praised the star for her bravery and shared their support.

The singer had battled addiction and being bipolar ever since she was a teenager.

Months before her overdose in 2018, Demi also suffered a relapse and released the single Sober.

Although today marks two years since one of the star's toughest experiences, it hasn't stopped Demi celebrating the exciting news of her engagement this week.

Just yesterday, Demi gushed over her 29-year-old fiancé Max Ehrich on social media.

She also shared a collection of stunning pictures that feature an enormous engagement ring, and she then she watched the Wedding Planner to really get in the mood.
