Dawn O’Porter got high on magic mushrooms and was 'drunk every night' in lockdown

In her new memoir, Life In Pieces, Dawn O'Porter details her drink and drug escapades with husband Chris O'Dowd while cooped up at home with their two children during lockdown

While the majority of us got through lockdown by watching copious amounts of Netflix, the same can’t be said for Dawn O’ Porter and her husband Chris O’Dowd.

The lovebirds, who tied the knot in 2012, kept the magic alive in quarantine by dabbling in some magic mushrooms and weed gummies.

The couple, who share children Art, five and Valentine, three, gobbled an array of psychedelic mushrooms at their Los Angeles home, while writer and presenter Dawn regularly popped weed gummies too in a bid to get her creative juices flowing.

Lifting the lid on one rather memorable day in quarantine, 41-year-old Dawn detailed her experience of trying to eat her dinner while high and hallucinating.

In her new memoir, Life In Pieces, the gorgeous mum-of-two explained: “I ate half an Indica gummy.

“Halfway through dinner my arms, legs and head turned into lead and I wasn’t entirely sure how I was going to get across the room again.

“It wasn’t scary, but I wasn’t expecting it to be so strong.”

The much-loved star continued: “I went to bed because, as Chris said, ‘Don’t waste it’, and I lay down and was asleep in minutes.”

In her new book, the former Balls of Steel star also details the couple’s drinking escapades while cooped up at home.

“We got drunk every night and then watched Hamilton on mushrooms. I’m never looking to be off my head when I’m around my children, all I’m aiming for is a slight buzz to numb the agony of having to look after them,” she candidly admitted.

Dishing the details on what it feels like after consuming weed gummies, Dawn said she feels pure peace and serenity.

“It goes to your mind, but it really works on your body. People take it to chill them out,” she added.

Dawn’s experience of lockdown couldn’t have been any more full-on after she turned 41 in January and then lost her close friend Caroline Flack one month later when the Love Island star tragically took her own life.

While trying to juggle being a parent, processing grief and exploring life's meanings, Dawn wrote down her feelings each day, which eventually resulted in her new memoir.
