David Dimbleby is considering a bid to be BBC's next chairman.
Sir David Clementi is standing down from the prestigious role as the BBC chairman in February 2021.
Now the former Question Time host David, 81, is considering stepping up to the job to follow in his footsteps.
He laid his plans out on the table in BBC’s Newscast podcast.
Previously, David expressed his horror over reports Prime Minister Boris Johnson wanted to give the job to former editor of the Telegraph newspaper Charles Moore.
He said of his plans to apply: "I still might apply, depending on who comes forward...
"Boris Johnson, we know, wants to bring the BBC to heel. We don't want a chairman who connives in that ambition."
David said it would be "a malign intervention" for Charles to get the post.
Referring to Charles' columns on gay marriage, he said: "I think you need someone with a more open mind."
A government spokesperson told Newscast: “We will launch the application process for the new chair of the BBC shortly. It is an open recruitment process and all public appointments are subject to a robust and fair selection criteria."
It's not the first time David has considered joining BBC's management team.
Previously he's been linked to the chairman role in the 2000s, according to the BBC.
