Daredevil Happy Mondays star Bez says he's scared of tap water and lycra

EXCLUSIVE: The Madchester band’s star risked life and limb doing a wing walk for a musicians’ mental health charity but says tap water is far too dangerous to touch

Happy Mondays’ Bez will try any high but won’t touch tap water as he thinks it’s too dangerous.

The Madchester band’s star, carrying his maracas, risked life and limb by doing a wing walk for a musicians’ mental health charity.

The Mondays’ ex-druggie dancer, 46, said: “I thought I’ve been flying before, that was proper flying.”

He said: “I tried not to hold on but then I ended up holding on for dear life.

"Doing a nose dive with a loop the loop was a hairy moment.”

The daredevil said the only thing he would not do is wear Lyrca.

He also revealed he is scared of the “nasties” in tap water and stays hydrated and well by purifying what he drinks.

He told the Sunday People he believes a lack of hydration contributes to a lot of mental health conditions.

He said he knew musicians with such problems, which made raising money for Tonic Music for Mental Health with his aerial stunt even more special.

Now he plans to complain to Boris Johnson about musicians, actors and artists having to cancel work during the pandemic.

He said: “I don’t think we should have to sign on when we could be working. We should carry on being supported by the Government.”

Bez's bandmate Shaun Ryder and Robbie Williams recently recorded a song together after bonding over UFOs.

After a night of swapping encounter stories, the believers decided to hit the studio and have recorded a tune that they plan to release next year.

Rob said: “I saw bits of Shaun’s UFO show, I’ve spoke to Shaun about it.

“Shaun told me, ‘Right, it (UFO) was just by a tree in front of me. They come all the time Rob,’ he sees what he sees.”

The Rock DJ singer insisted the Happy Mondays star has always inspired his music too: “Me and him have done a song together.

“Quite often I try and channel Shaun Ryder when I’m writing songs.

“The song will emerge, plans change all the time, but hopefully some time in the Spring.”
